James Mason Treat

James Mason Treat, 72, of Springdale passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale. He was born June 4, 1941, in Searcy County, near Big Flat, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stonewall and Nola Treat; and a brother, William Glenn Treat. James was a retired machinist and currently a security guard for Securitas. He was an outdoorsman who loved to share his hunting stories with his son and other members of the family; he loved working with his dogs, spending time with his grandchildren and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth (Stewart) Treat, to whom he was married 50 years; his daughter, Tambra Renae Knipe and husband, Johnny Paul Knipe, of Springdale; three granddaughters, Carley, Madison and Jordan; his son, Gregory Dean Treat of the home; one brother, S.W. Treat Jr. and wife, Evelyn, of Marshall; three sisters, Johnnie Rae Barnes and husband, Brad, of Greers Ferry, Bonnie McCook and husband, Owen, of Mountain Home, and Carolyn Barnes Alexander of Mountain View; and 16 nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Visitation will be held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at 11 a.m. Brother Junior Ray Barham and Brother Junior Martin will officiate the service, with burial being conducted at the Zion Cemetery, under the direction of the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale.
