Helen R. Guinn Watson

Helen Guinn Watson, 95, of Fayetteville, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 13, 2014. She was born Nov. 30, 1918, in Winslow, Ark., to John Guinn and Grace Lehn Guinn. Helen was a godly woman who loved serving in her church, spending time with her family, and helping others. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Fayetteville. She was a charter member of Goshen Church of the Nazarene, where she taught adult Sunday School for over 43 years. Helen was most happy when she was preparing a large meal with all her family gathered together. Helen was always the first to provide food and support to family and friends who needed it. She loved to cook and was famous for her pies. Some of her recipes appeared in Southern Living magazine. On April 18, 1937, she married the love-of-her-life, Ottis Watson. They spent over 61 happy years together. Helen is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Howard Guinn; sisters, Violet Bernice Guinn, Joye Cooper and Gladys Harp; a son, Jerry Watson; a grandson, Derek Watson; and a great-grandson, Gabriel Watson. Helen is survived by son, Jim Watson and his wife, Sherry; son, Danny Watson; and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Watson, all of Fayetteville. Helen is also survived by two brothers, Omer Guinn and CL Guinn, both of Goshen; and a sister, Thelma Culwell of Fayetteville. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Cindy Carr, Doug Watson, Jay Watson, Kyle Watson, Ryan Watson and Braden Watson, all of Fayetteville. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Jordan Carr, Cora Watson, Macy Watson, Lily Watson, Jacob Watson, Connor Watson, Benjamin Watson and Danielle Watson, all of Fayetteville, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank Stephanie Napier of NAPS and all the caregivers who provided such compassionate care to Helen in her final days. Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Beard's Funeral Home in Fayetteville. A celebration of Helen's life will be held Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at 10 a.m. at First Church of the Nazarene in Fayetteville, with Pastors Larry Woodward, Larry Ryan, and Lindell Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
