Dwayne Dennis, age 68 of Winslow died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, in Fort Smith. He was born Aug. 8, 1945, in Fayetteville to Marion and Ruth Dennis. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carol Jean Brown. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Donna; one son, Hayden Dwayne Dennis and his wife Katie of Winslow; two daughters, Kim Loughridge and her husband Doug of Alma; Leslie Spurlock and her husband Daren of Farmington; his sister's children, Rona Baughman, Tracy Laird and Slate Brown, whom he raised after her death; one brother, Mike Dennis and his wife Geri of Winslow and 10 grandchildren. He was a member of Black Oak Church of Christ. Dwayne attended a one-room schoolhouse in Sunset from the first to the eighth grade and went on to graduate from Greenland High School in 1963. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Nutrition from the University of Arkansas in 1968. He worked for Dennis Home Furnishings for many years and later opened Dennis Appliance and TV which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1999. Even though he was a businessman, he thoroughly enjoyed being a cattle and chicken farmer. He was also a volunteer firefighter and was instrumental in the establishment of Sunset Fire Department. He was an avid outdoorsman; he loved to deer and coon hunt. Dwayne was a hard working, Christian man who loved his family. He persevered through multiple hardships, always remaining dedicated to his faith. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and a perfect example of what a husband, father and grandfather should be. Visitation will be 6 p.m.–8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Moore's Chapel. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Center Street Church of Christ in Fayetteville with burial to follow at Black Oak Cemetery near Winslow.
