William Eugene "Gene" Hampton

William Eugene "Gene" Hampton, 95, of Fayetteville died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, at Circle of Life Hospice Home in Springdale. He was born July 31, 1919, in Pryor, Okla., to Charles W. Hampton and Mary Martha (Fortner) Hampton. He graduated from Strang Oklahoma High School in 1938. He married Mae Ellen Grimes of Rogers, Ark., in Abilene, Texas, on Aug. 29, 1942. He served as an officer in the Army during WWII in the South Pacific. He graduated from Central Bible College in Springfield, Mo., in 1951 and obtained a second degree from Evangel College in 1966. He was a member of Trinity Fellowship Assembly of God for over 20 years. Preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mae Ellen, who passed away in November 2009; and by a grandson, John E. Sears. Survived by four daughters: Martha E. Hadden of Liberty, Mo.; Sonya R. Sears of Fayetteville; Eugenia "Jean" Huffman of Springdale; and Esther M. DeVault of Overland Park, Kan.; two sons, David E. Hampton of Billings, Mo., and Jonathan E. Hampton of Portland, Ore.; brother, Marvin Hampton of Dodge City, Kan.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He served his Lord as a pastor, lay leader and a teacher. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at Beard's Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at the Fayetteville National Cemetery with Reverend Darren Rogers officiating under the direction of Beard's Chapel.
