John Emerson Henthorn, 76, of Bella Vista, Ark., passed away Nov. 29, 2014, at Circle of Life Legacy Village. He was born on Oct. 30, 1938, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Dorothy Mae and Emerson Louis Henthorn. John moved to Bella Vista, Ark., from St. Louis, Mo., with his wife, Sylvia, in 1994, and worked for Walmart 20 years as a computer programmer, retiring in April of 2014. He was a lieutenant, having served in the U.S. Army as an instructor in Fort Sill, Okla. After the military, he was instrumental in writing the software used to run the rocket boosters during the Apollo Moon project in Huntsville, Ala. He loved to play pool, was an avid rock hounder and was scout master for the Scout Troop 796 of Florissant, Mo. John is survived by his wife, Sylvia of 54 years; two sons, David Henthorn of Bella Vista, Ark., and Joe Henthorn and wife, Molly, of St. Paul, Mo.; a brother, Tom Henthorn and wife, Jackie, of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister, Bonnie Robinson of Kearney, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Joey, Michael and Jimmy. A memorial service led by Pastor Mark Voll will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at the Village Bible Evangelical Free Church. Internment will take place at a later date in St. Louis, Mo. Memorials may be made to the Village Bible Evangelical Free Church, Building Fund, 210 Town Center, Bella Vista, AR 72714.
