Josephine June Harlan Pennington

June Pennington, 88, formerly of Fayetteville, died Friday, March 28, 2014, in Denton, Texas. June was born May 27, 1925, in North Little Rock, Ark. She was the oldest of three children born to Alonzo Grady Harlan and Julia Brunette Loyd Harlan. She attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and married William McCready Pennington of Woodville, Texas, in 1945. Bill preceded June in death on Aug. 23, 2013. As a student at Arkansas, she enjoyed life in her sorority, Delta Delta Delta, and was active in drama and dance. June was selected as a beauty at the University and was a Razorback cheerleader. June is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Pennington Porter and son-in-law, Dr. James R. Porter, of Pilot Point, Texas; son, William McCready Pennington Jr. of Hendersonville, Tenn.; son, Grady Harlan Pennington of Lake Jackson, Texas; son, Brett Carlton Pennington and wife, Deborah Waits Pennington, of Angleton, Texas; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. June is also survived by her sister, Martha Harlan Morgan of Evansville, Ind.; and her sister-in-law, Valerie Ayers Harlan of Fayetteville. A memorial service will be held at the Brazosport Center for the Arts and Sciences and a reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be given to: First United Methodist Church, 404 Azalea St., Lake Jackson, TX 77566; or to the Brazosport Art League, 400 College Drive, Clute, TX 77531.
