Marion E. Brown, 89, of Springdale passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at his home. He was born May 6, 1924, in Nevada, Mo., to Leslie and Lena Street Browne. As a child he lived in New Mexico and later his family moved to Springdale in 1930. He attended Springdale schools and graduated in 1942. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Air Corps and served in several flight squadrons until he was discharged April 1946. He then attended the University of Arkansas and went to work for Pillsbury Foods. In January of 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict from January 1951 until January 1952 and was discharged in April 1952. Returning to Springdale, he went to work at the Famous Hardware Store on Emma Avenue from 1952 until 1957. In February 1957, he began his career with the U.S. Postal Service. He was appointed as the Postmaster in Springdale in 1970 and held that position until he retired in May of 1982. He married his high school sweetheart, Millie Lou Riggs, on June 5, 1949. They were married for 63 years; she preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 2013. He was member of the First United Methodist Church in Springdale and past member of the Rotary Club. Marion is survived by two sons, Mike Brown and wife, Carla, of Owasso, Okla., and Glenn Brown and wife, Carol, of Springdale; one daughter, Lorna Weible and husband, Mike, of Magnolia, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale, with the Rev. Judy Van Hoose officiating. Visitation will be Friday, April 4, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale. Pallbearers will be grandsons, C.J. Brown, Jeff Brown, Matt Brown, Peter Brown, Seth Brown and Nathan Pendergraft. Honorary pallbearers are Cletus Browne, Sanford Boone, Bob Chambers, Harold Dean Hewitt, Jay Penix, Riley Reed and Walter Turnbow. Memorials may be made to Bread of Life, 212 W.
