Janie A. Abshire

Janie "Pete" Abshire, 83, of Gentry, Ark., passed away Aug. 31, 2013, in Siloam Springs, Ark. She was born Oct. 3, 1929, in Ardmore, Okla., to Clell and Susie Mayo. Janie worked for many years for Emerson Electric and was of the Baptist faith where she attended the First Baptist Church of Highfill, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Abshire; one daughter, Connie Carter; two brothers, Albert and Junior Mayo; five sisters, Helen Wright, Bessie Moses, Irene Vandroof, Willie Anne Weaver and Ruth Lane; two grandchildren, Jonathan Absire and Jessica Harmon. Survivors include three sons, Curtis Abshire and wife, Lori, of Bentonville, Ark., Stanley Abshire of Highfill, Ark., Jackie Abshire of Bedford, Texas; one sister, Rebecca Parsons and husband, Chris, of Springdale, Ark.; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at the First Baptist Church in Highfill, Ark., on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at 10 a.m., with the Pastor Roger Robins officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery near Gentry, Ark. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs, Ark.
