Charles Edwin Smith

Charles Edwin Smith, 88, was born in Plainview Texas, to C.L. and Annie (Horne) Smith. As a teenager, he moved to Dallas with his family, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School. For many years, he was manager of Williford Lumber Company, until the Lord led him and his wife, the former Mildred Notley, into a full-time tape ministry. In 1960, they founded Tapes for Christ and later CAM Audio, distributing the recorded Word of God throughout the world to individuals, pastors, missionaries, churches and seminaries. Retirement took them to Rogers, Ark., where they built their dream house and hosted a multitude of guests over the years. Health problems brought them back to Texas. Thanks to wonderful caregivers, Dorothy, Betty and LaQuisha, they remained in their McKinney home until their deaths. By God's immeasurable grace, Charles went peacefully to sleep and awakened in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 7, 2013. He was joyfully reunited with his wife of 65 years, who preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 2011. He is survived by sisters, Mary Lorraine Smith of Dallas, Eleanor Simpson of Lubbock and Ann Pearson of Dallas; daughter, Carole (Bob) Neubrand of Dallas; son, Bill (Jeanne) Smith of Rowlett; grandchildren, Sheryl Winberry, Daniel (Julie) Smith and Katherine (Tom) Palmeri; great-grandchildren, Chaz, Kaitlyn, Faith and Kylie. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on April 6 at Eastgate Funeral Home, 1910 Eastgate Drive, Garland TX 75041 (972-270-6116), followed by visitation with the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to their favorite local charity, Roanoke Food Pantry, 108 Pecan Street, Roanoke TX 76262-8616.
