Dr. George Stephen Denny, 55, of Fayetteville died Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Washington Regional Medical Center. George was a rock for his family and all those around him. He was a lifelong learner, gifted teacher, and humble servant. He was both brilliant and wise, highly observant and cared for others constantly. He was adaptable, content, generous, faithful and loyal to his core. He was gifted in mercy and hospitality, and loved cooking for others. He was joyful and fun-loving, with a great laugh and sense of humor. He loved games of all kinds — board games, bridge, racquetball, and playing with children, especially his own. He enjoyed traveling and experiencing different cultures. He was a godly man who loved to sing, and was a servant leader at every church he attended. He quickly earned and rightly deserved the respect and appreciation of those he met. He was a committed husband, father, son, and brother. He was loved dearly, and leaves a legacy shaped by his love for God and the people around him. He finished his race strong. He was born on Sept. 29, 1957, in Wichita, Kan., to Duane and Billie Denny. Survivors include his beloved wife of 31 years, Heather Denny; two sons, Fred Denny and wife Kimi of Morristown, N.J., and Charles Denny of Fayetteville; three daughters, Dorothy Denny of St. Louis, Eleanor Bates and husband Trevor, and Alex Phillips and husband Greg, both of Little Rock; three grandchildren, Nona Bates, Ava Denny and Violet Phillips; parents, Duane and Billie Denny of Kansas; brother, John Denny and wife Mary of Kansas; five sisters, Carol Khol and husband Rick, Alice Page and husband Steve, Susan Lamers and husband Phil, all of Kansas, Anne Denny of Teec Nos Pos, Ariz., and Marta Woolbert and husband David of Nanticoke, Penn. He was preceded in death by his brother, Allen Denny. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church 695 E. Calvin Street, Fayetteville, AR 72703. Lunch will follow the graveside service; all are welcome.
