Thomas Eugene Mackey

Thomas Eugene Mackey, 65, passed away Oct. 21, 2012, in Bentonville, Ark. Born Nov. 24, 1946, in Emporia, Kan., Tom was the son of Donald Gene Mackey and Hazel Mae Rood. Preceding him in death are his parents; and son, Troy Gene Mackey. Tom is survived by Linda Hundley of the home: son, Todd Erik Mackey of Plainville, Kan.; brother, Bill Mackey and wife, Betty, of Eudora, Kan.; and grandchildren, Jesse, Troy and Erik Mackey, Shelby Fears and Madison Hundley. Following graduation from Emporia High School in 1965, Tom enlisted in the United States Navy where he ran river boats in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. After retiring from Lawrence Freightline in Lawrence, Kan., Tom moved to Bentonville, Ark., in 1990, where he served as head custodian and "Mr. Fix-it" for Sugar Creek Elementary. Benefiting from his passion for baking and smoking meats were Fire Station 3, the breakfast club and neighborhood children. Tom was also an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener and swimmer. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at the Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. 4th, Rogers, Ark. Military Honors by the Rogers American Legion Post 100.
