Gerald 'Jerry' William Pope

Gerald "Jerry" William Pope, 70, of Springdale died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, in Springdale. He was born April 14, 1942, in Fort Smith, Ark., to W.E. "Buck" and Elizabeth Sharum Pope. Jerry worked with IBEW local #700 in Fort Smith for many years as an electrician. He helped on numerous construction projects, including Springdale Memorial Hospital, the University of Arkansas and Nuclear One. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. He loved to garden and spend time with his family. He loved the Arkansas Razorbacks and Kansas City Chiefs. Jerry served in the Arkansas National Guard. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Pope in 2010, to whom he was married Oct. 9, 1965; and one stepbrother, Dee Hayes. Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Slater and husband, Stan, of Springdale; one grandson, Luke Slater; one granddaughter, Logan Slater; his stepmother, Phyllis Pope of Fort Smith; one stepbrother, Randy Hayes of Pine Bluff; one stepsister, Terry Vaughan of Fort Smith. Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday 10 a.m. at St. Raphael Catholic Church. Rosary services will be Monday at 7 p.m. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Raphael Catholic Church.
