Allen Flinn Baker

Allen Flinn Baker, 95, of Rogers passed away on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at the Fayetteville Veterans Home in Fayetteville, Ark. He was born June 21, 1917, in Batesville, Ark., to Allen William Baker and Maude Flinn Baker. Allen is now with his Lord and Savior and reunited with the love of his life, Margaret (Marge) Baker, his wife of 69 years. His children are Judith A. Carney, Nancy B. Rogers (residents of Rogers) and David W. Baker (who preceded him in death). Allen's grandchildren are Christine Carney, Beau Rogers, Jill Kleinebreil and husband, Kevin; great-grandchildren, Clay and Cory Kleinebreil. He is survived by three siblings, Francis Durham, Susan Donnell, and Gerald Baker and his wife, Barbara; plus many nieces and nephews. Allen proudly served in the U.S. Army from September 1942 until his honorable discharge in October 1945. Allen fought in WWII at the Battle of the Bulge, the Hurtgen Forest and the battle at the Ramagen Bridge. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart with Cluster, the Silver Star and the Bronze Star. In 2006, Allen received Belgium's prestigious Fourragere Award for his division's heroic stand and great sacrifices in Belgium. He was a St. Louis police officer for 20 years before he and Marge moved to Greers Ferry Lake where they owned a fishing resort. Moving to Rogers, they owned Prairie Creek Marina and Lost Bridge Marina before retirement. Fishing was his favorite hobby. Allen was a member of the American Legion, Post 100. He loved those Saturday breakfasts where he met with many old friends. He was a founding member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart in Northwest Arkansas. His residence for the past two years was the Fayetteville Veterans Home where he received excellent daily care from the staff, many of whom became his extended family. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 29, 2012, at Central United Methodist Church, 2535 W. New Hope Road in Rogers, where Allen was a long-time member. The Rev. Carness Vaughan, the Rev. Jim Keith and the Rev. Jaimie Alexander will be officiating. Inurnment will be in the Columbarium at Central United Methodist Church, with full military honors provided by the American Legion, Post 100. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion, Post 100, 711 W. Persimmon, Rogers, AR 72756, where they assist all veterans, from those returning from combat to those aging veterans who need special assistance.
