Winston Paulding Caine, M.D.

Winston Paulding Caine Jr., M.D., FACP, died at home in Signal Mountain, Tenn., on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012. Born in Chattanooga, Tenn., on April 16, 1937, he attended the Bright School and received his secondary education from The McCallie School. In 1959, he received his B.A. in chemistry from Vanderbilt University, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, having been on a football scholarship for four years. He continued to be involved in leadership roles in these schools' alumni activities. Dr. Caine was devoted to his family and is survived by his wife, the former Priscilla Ann Murdoch; three sons, the Rev. Stephen Rhoads Caine (Monnie) of Shelbyville Tenn., Matthew Murdoch Caine (Molly) of Atlanta Ga., and Adam Hughes Caine (Katy) of Springdale; eight grandchildren, Winston Rhoads Caine, Marion Adams Caine, Elliott Eakin Caine, Grayson Neal Caine, Haseley Ewin Caine, Riley Allums, Walter Hughes Caine and Addison Rachel Caine; sisters, Helen Caine Franklin (Ben) of Louisville, Ky., and Marjorie Caine Brown (Ron) of Longwood, Fla. The family requests that remembrances be offered to the McCallie School for the scholarship Dr. Caine established in memory of his son Winston Paulding Caine III, "Winky," to Vanderbilt University Athletics Department or to Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held 12 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bill Dudley and the Rev. Margaret Ferguson officiating.
