Alice H. Matthews, 87, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, in Fayetteville. She was born July 24, 1925, in Blytheville, Ark., the daughter of Thomas Hinkle and Lessie Crowder Hollimon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam J. Matthews on July 28, 2000, and a son, James Lynn Bostick. She was secretary to the Veterans Administration Medical Center director and chief of staff, retiring in 1982, after 34 years of government service. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and was active in the First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, where she served as an elder. She was a graduate of Little Rock Central High School in 1944 and grew up in Little Rock. She married Sam J. Matthews in 1954 and moved to Fayetteville that same year. She is survived by a son, Barry Wayne Bostick of Garfield, Ark.; a daughter, Tommye Alice Thompson of Springdale, Ark.; a brother, Milton Hollimon of Fort Smith, Ark.; a sister, Mary Grace Edmondson of Little Rock, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at Moore's Chapel. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 22, 2012 at First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville with burial at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville, under the direction of Moore's Chapel.
