William Russell Cate, 92, a lifetime resident of Prairie Grove, passed away May 21, 2012, at Katherine's Place in Fayetteville. He was born Feb. 13, 1920, in Prairie Grove, the son of Omer and Lena Belle Cohea Cate. Russell served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he received the Purple Heart. He was the owner and operator of Cate's Garage, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Prairie Grove. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louella Cate; two brothers, Floyd Cate and Clarence Cate; one sister, Zelpha Bain. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Lee Cooksey Cate; one son, Mark Cate and his wife, Michele, of Prairie Grove; one daughter, Sandra McLaughlin and her husband, Ed, of Springdale; four grandchildren, Angela Woodward, Lisa Hill, Brandon Cate and Tara Cate; five great-grandchildren, Morgan Nuessner, Evan Nuessner, Hayden Hill, Halle Hill and Carter Cate; one sister, Dorothy Jones of Fort Smith; Joyce's children, Linda Gordon, Judy Nichols and Barry Cooksey and their families. Family will receive friends this evening from 6-7 p.m. at Luginbuel Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Prairie Grove. Burial will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery; there will be no graveside services held at the cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Laningham, Wayne Villines, Bob Shelley, Fred Bartlett, Carl Reeves, Tom Shannon and Charles Bigbee.
