Don Darwyn Bersinger

Don Darwyn Bersinger, 84, of Fayetteville, Ark., died early in the morning on Sunday, July 15, 2012. Born on Jan. 1, 1928, in Vera, Pa., he attended high school in Lewistown, Pa. Following his graduation, he served in the Navy from 1945 to 1948. At Pennsylvania State University, he earned his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Dr. Bersinger came to Fayetteville in 1961 to develop the Speech Pathology and Audiology Clinic at the University of Arkansas. He retired in 1990 as professor emeritus of Speech Pathology/Audiology. Dr. Bersinger is survived by his only son, Dr. David Bersinger, an obstetrician-gynecologist of Cheraw, S.C., and his wife, Robin Simmons Bersinger; his two grandsons, David Austin Bersinger and his wife, Amanda Seals Bersinger, and Blake Thomas Bersinger; and his brothers, Bob Bersinger of Reedsville, Pa., and Fred Bersinger of Marquette, Mich. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, Ark. Cremation arrangments are under the direction of Beard's Funeral Chapel.
