Mabel Ferguson

Mabel Ferguson began her stroll over Heaven on July 7, 2012, from Bradford House Nursing and Rehab in Bentonville at the "young" age of 96. Mabel was born on Nov. 8, 1915, in the town of Osage, Ark., to the late Burt and Minnie (Harrington) Shackelford. She married at a young age Ace Ferguson, and was a pastor's wife for many years. She loved to sing, and often sang her favorite hymns until the end of her life here. She was a member of the Bentonville Freewill Baptist Church and dearly loved her church and family. She is survived by three children, Virgil Ferguson and wife, Mazie, of Bentonville, J.C. Ferguson and wife, Lois, of Hot Springs, Jo Baldridge and husband, Leroy, of Bentonville; sons-in-law, Gerald Wiens and Mac Taylor, both of Bentonville; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 28 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rev. Ace Ferguson; daughters, Charlene Wiens and Sue Taylor; and siblings, Bill Shackelford, Frank Shackelford, Mary Ferguson and Don Shackelford. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bentonville Freewill Baptist Church, officiated by Anthony Lane, Ellis Doyle and Doug Adkins. Burial will follow in Bentonville Cemetery. Arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Bentonville.
