Jimmie Frances VanCalligan

Jimmie Frances VanCalligan, age 86, of Fayetteville, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at the Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville. She was born Aug. 3, 1925, in Kensett, Ark., the daughter of James William Sloan Jr. and Gladys Frances Bealmear Sloan. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; and a son, George McFarland. She was a retired secretary for the U.S. Navy, a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and a member of Prairie Grove Christian Church. She was known by many as Grandma Jimmie and wouldn't let anyone call her Ma'am. Her door was always open and she was a friend to all, young and old. She always had time to share her faith in God, to listen without judgment, or to laugh with you or at herself. She will be missed by her many friends and family across the country. She is survived by one son, James William McFarland of Arizona; her two sisters, Jacqueline Bealmear Holland of California and Helen Sloan of Benton, Ark.; one grandson, Trail Sloan McFarland of Fayetteville, Ark.; one granddaughter, Carrie Beth McFarland of Calif. She was loved by three great-grandchildren, William James, Quintin Sloan and Elijah Trail McFarland; her two longtime friends of 65-plus years, Alice Matthews of Arkansas and Wilma Davis of Arkansas.
