Henry Hill Simmons

Henry Hill Simmons was born in Mountainburg, Ark., to James Jackson and Essie Hill Simmons. He graduated from Alma High School and the University of Arkansas. He served in the Naval Air Corps during World War II in the Philippine Islands. He married Lorita Lashley in 1950. He worked for the USDA as a meat and poultry inspector for 38 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Springdale, Ark., and was an elder and teacher in the church. He was active in the Washington County Fair where he served as President and board member for years. He was a member of the Fayetteville City Hospital Auxiliary where he worked at the Attic. He also worked with Boy Scouts and 4-H Clubs, and was an avid Razorback fan. He and his wife raised four children on a farm between Fayetteville and Springdale where he raised Polled Hereford cattle. He received a 50-year award as a breeder of Hereford cattle by the American Hereford Association in 2004. He is survived by his wife, Lorita Simmons of the home; one son, Jim Simmons and wife Kathy of Newberg, Ore.; three daughters, Sharon Shepherd and husband Jim of Aurora, Mo., Lee Ann Rozanske and husband Steve of Geneva, Ill., Mary Simmons of Fayetteville; a sister, Rita Parkerson of Hot Springs, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. There will be a private interment in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 S. Gutensohn Road, Springdale, Arkansas with a fellowship to follow.
