Dr. Glennon Amos Horner

Dr. Glennon Amos Horner, age 82, of Rogers, Ark., passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas in Rogers, Ark. He was born Sept. 9, 1930, in Cassville, Mo., the son of Amos Joseph and Montez (Brixey) Horner. On March 2, 1952, in Cassville, he was united in marriage to Ella Paulina Pitts, who preceded him in death on Jan. 15, 2010. Also preceding him in death were his parents; and a son-in-law, Jim Haak. Surviving are four daughters, Norma Horner and her partner, Debbie Byers, of Tontitown, Ark., Barbara Huddleston and her husband, Bob, of Jessieville, Ark., Peg Horner and her husband, Stuart Rowen, of Kansas City, Mo., and Patty Haak of Springdale, Ark.; one brother, Max Horner and his wife, Johnnie, of Kingston, Wash.; and five grandchildren, Erin Huddleston, Dan Huddleston, Rachel Huddleston, Roger Amos Haak and Joe Haak. Glennon grew up and received his education in Cassville, graduating from Cassville High School. He then furthered his education graduating from Southern Missouri State University, University of Arkansas, and in 1957, was a graduate of the first graduating class of the University of Missouri, Medical School in Columbia, Mo. In 1969, he graduated from the Anesthesia Program at MU. He moved to Fayetteville, Ark., working as an anesthesiologist and then worked at St. Mary's in Rogers, Ark. He did over 35,000 solo anesthesia cases in his career. While in the United States Air Force, he took a two year deferment to do his residency. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He made over 120 fishing trips to Lac Seul, Ontario, Canada, taking several of his many acquaintances, friends and family, catching a lot of Walleye. He was a big Razorback fan, attending every basketball game for many years. He was a long-time contributor to the University of Arkansas Scholarship Fund. He was a member of the United Methodist faith and a member of Ducks Unlimited, being the originator of the Northwest Arkansas Chapter. He was a prolific storyteller. His grandfather, Hugh Brixey, was park superintendant of Roaring River State Park, where Glennon spent many of his summers, honing his fishing skills, teaching tourists how to fish. Roaring River was a very special place to him. After retiring, Glennon cared for his wife in their home over 10 years while she endured the course of Alzheimer's. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Mo. Pastor Bob Neeley will conduct the services. Burial will be in Horner Cemetery, Cassville. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
