J.C. Smith Sr.

J.C. Smith Sr., age 77, of Bentonville passed away on Aug. 19, 2012, in Bentonville. He was born Nov. 22, 1934, in Rocky Ford, Ga., to the late John Cubert and Annie Miller Smith. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pea Ridge. He had retired from Pel-Freeze and had also worked at Thunder Alley Speedway for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He loved being with his family, stock car racing, wrestling and doing handyman projects. He is survived by four sons and one daughter, Don and wife, Edie Hook, of Pea Ridge, Peggy and husband, Rodney Curnutte, of Pittsburg, Kan., John Hook of Rogers, Ronnie and wife, Tracy Hook, of Bentonville, J.C. Jr. and wife, Kristi Smith, of Stella, Mo.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Demarl "Merle" Smith; and by four sisters. Funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 24, at Callison-Lough Funeral Home Chapel in Bentonville at 1 p.m. Ralph Walker will officiate the service. Interment will be in the Benton County Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. A visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville. Arrangements are under the care of Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Bentonville.
