Barbara J. Scott

Barbara J. Scott, 86, passed away Aug. 10, 2012, at Legacy Village in Bentonville. She was born June 7, 1926, to the late Lewis A. Proper and Bryle M. (Whitter) Walter in Ellicott, N.Y. She was a psychiatric nurse at Osawatomie Kansas State Hospital for 20 years before moving to Rogers where she worked at the Springdale Hospital in the psychiatric ward until retiring. She fell in love with Arkansas when she moved because it reminded her of Pennsylvania. She enjoyed bowling, camping with her late husband, Harold C. Scott. She was a big fan of Jeopardy and was an avid golfer. Barbara also loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Steven L. Putnam of Kansas; daughter, Barbara Shelton of Rogers; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her stepfather, Wayne E. Walter Sr., who raised her from the age of 2; brothers and sisters, Wayne E. Walter Jr., Joseph Proper and Norma Jean Bennett. A funeral service will be Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, W. Pleasant Grove Road, with a burial to follow at Benton County Memorial Park. A visitation will be held before the funeral at the church from 10-11:30 a.m. Donations can be made to Circle of Life, c/o Legacy Village, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72762.
