FAYETTEVILLE -- A Fayetteville man is dead and a woman injured after they were struck by a vehicle Monday evening.

According to police, the incident occurred just after 6 p.m. when a 2010 Ford Expedition was westbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and the driver struck two pedestrians running southbound across the street just west of Hollywood Avenue. Police say it was raining at the time.

A crash report from the Arkansas Department of Public Safety said 66-year-old Gregory Joseph Dana of Fayetteville walked into traffic as he tried to cross the street in a location where there were no crosswalks or an intersection. A 26-year-old Emily Juanitta Waterman then ran after Dana trying to stop him but they were both hit by the SUV, according to the report.

Dana was pronounced dead at Washington Regional Medical Center, according to police.

The driver hasn't been cited.

It was the second fatality in the area in just a few days. Ricky Harrington, 53, of Fayetteville was riding a bike when he was struck by a vehicle and killed Saturday morning. That crash happened at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Shiloh Drive about 11 a.m.

According to a crash report, Harrington was trying to cross the street at a crosswalk when he was struck. Conditions were clear and dry.
