"During the first quarter, many of our operational initiatives took hold as loaded miles per available truck increased, empty miles decreased, and unseated truck count metrics improved," James Reed, USA Truck's president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"And while the impact of our operational improvements was muted by a tough pricing environment early on and then complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic later in the quarter, our team rose to the challenge posed by the pandemic as we delivered high quality service through each stage of the crisis," Reed said.

The company's trucking division reported $94 million in revenue, down 1% year over year. The division reported 45.7 million miles covered, up from 42.8 million miles a year ago. Revenue per truck per week was $3,223, down from $3,375 in the same quarter of 2019.

The logistics division reported revenue of $35.8 million, down from $41.4 million a year ago.
