I-630 lane closings set to begin Monday

Work on an $87.4 million project to widen a section of Interstate 630 in west Little Rock will require daytime lane closings lasting several months and weeklong nighttime lane closings, all beginning Monday, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

The inside lanes of I-630 eastbound and westbound between South University Avenue and Baptist Health Drive will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily during the workweek, weather permitting, for several months to allow crews to work in the median.

The inside and middle lanes in both directions in the vicinity of the South Hughes Street overpass will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily through Friday, weather permitting, to allow crews to paint the overpass.

The work is part of a project to widen a 2.2-mile section of I-630 between South University Avenue and Interstate 430 to eight lanes from six. The widening is estimated to be complete early this year.
