Span work to shut I-630 lanes overnight

An $87.4 million project to widen a section of Interstate 630 in west Little Rock will require lane closings tonight, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

Two lanes will be closed in both directions east and west of South University Avenue from 8 tonight until 6 a.m. Thursday, weather permitting, to allow workers to work on the bridge deck.

One lane of traffic in each direction will remain open, but the department said drivers may consider finding alternate routes as delays may occur. Traffic will be controlled using signs and barrels.

The work is part of a project to widen a 2.2-mile section of I-630 to eight lanes from six between South University Avenue and Baptist Health Drive. The project is estimated to be complete in early 2020.
