Scholars to speak on top cases at high court

Two legal scholars from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock will review the most important U.S. Supreme Court cases from the previous term and discuss some of the most interesting cases to watch in the new term.

They will have a lot to choose from.

About 7,000-8,000 new cases are filed in the U.S. Supreme Court each term, according to the court's website.

The speakers are Theresa Beiner, dean of the W.H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and John DiPippa, who is dean emeritus of the Bowen School. Beiner and DiPippa will speak at noon Monday in Sturgis Hall.

Their appearance is part of the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service speaker series. The Clinton School and the Bowen School are co-sponsors of the event.

By law, the court's term begins on the first Monday in October and lasts until the first Monday in October of the next year.

Sturgis Hall, which houses part of the Clinton School, is on the grounds of the Clinton Presidential Center, 1200 President Clinton Ave.

The program will last about an hour.

Admission is free and open to the public.
