W. Memphis gets only points in OT

JACKSONVILLE -- Junior Colin Clark kicked a 24-yard field goal in overtime to give the West Memphis Blue Devils a 3-0 victory over Jacksonville.

West Memphis (8-0, 5-0 6A-East) got the ball first in overtime. After advancing the ball to the 3 on third down, the Blue Devils were flagged for procedure.

Clark's kick was deflected, but it still had plenty of distance.

"That was nerve-wracking," Clark said. "I just tried to tell myself to lock my ankle and follow-through."

Jacksonville quarterback Shavarris Curley kept on second down on the Titans' possession and fumbled. Senior nose guard Hasani Adams recovered for West Memphis to give the Blue Devils the victory.

West Memphis' defense limited Jacksonville (3-5, 1-4) to 11 total yards. Jacksonville had minus-9 yards at halftime.

Meanwhile, the Blue Devils were able to compile 159 total yards, all of it coming on the ground.

West Memphis had a 59-yard touchdown by Devin Olloway called back due to a block in the back, and Blue Devils' running back Latavian Thomas, who had 39 carries on the night, was on his way to the end zone in the third quarter, but he bobbled the ball at the Jacksonville 15.

West Memphis couldn't push it into the end zone from there.

Jacksonville's Curley completed 3 of 7 passes for 13 yards. West Memphis' Owens McConnel was 0 for 3 with one interception in the first half.

"The field conditions were terrible, but at the end of the day I'm happy to be 8-0," West Memphis Coach Billy Elmore said. "Our kids kept playing, and I'm proud of what we ended up doing. We didn't look good doing it, but we'll take it."
