VOLLEYBALL

UAPB rallies for victory

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff lost the first set of Friday's match against Mississippi Valley State, but won the next three to claim a 23-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-23 victory at Elmore Gymnasium in Huntsville, Ala.

Kendalle Howard led UAPB (6-15, 4-6 Southwestern Athletic Conference) with 22 digs and 21 kills, while Haley Gomez had 22 digs and 13 kills. Britney Sahlmann had 21 digs and a match-high 42 assists for the Golden Lions.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Ertl leads ASU to victory

Forward Maggie Ertl scored two goals Friday and assisted on a third to lead Arkansas State University to a 3-1 victory over Georgia Southern in Jonesboro.

Both of Ertl's goals, which came in the 49th and 87th minutes, were unassisted. Ertl and Victoria MacIntosh assisted on Sarah Sodoma's goal in the eighth minute off a stolen free kick.

The Red Wolves (7-6-2, 4-4 Sun Belt Conference) took 27 shots with 14 on-goal. Ertl and Sodoma had five each to lead ASU. Goalkeeper Kelsey Ponder made three saves to earn her fifth victory of the season, but she gave up Georgia Southern's lone goal in the 81st minute to Tyler Gordon.

Henderson pair honored by GAC

Henderson State University sophomore Trey DePriest was named the Great American Conference's Men's Golfer of the Week on Friday, while senior Luisa Gartmann was named co-Women's Golfer of the Week.

DePriest helped the Reddies finish their fall season with a victory at the Blue Tiger Invitational in Jefferson City, Mo. He shot rounds of 4-under 68 and 3-over 75 to finish in second place at 1-under 143, which was one stroke behind individual medalist Yente Van Doren of Lindenwood University.

Gartmann tied for sixth place with Southwestern Oklahoma State's Elin Wahlin, who also shared the co-Golfer of the Week honor, at the NCAA Division II Central Region Preview to help the Reddies place fourth in the 18-team event. Gartmann shot rounds of 3-over 74 and 4-over 75 to finish at 7-over 149.
