3 minors arrested in Jonesboro fire

Three minors accused of setting a fire that left one person critically injured have been arrested, authorities said Friday.

Gabriel Walton, 17, of Jonesboro was the only one of the three named, and he will be tried as an adult on charges of arson, burglary and theft, according to a news release from the Jonesboro Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to a blaze Monday in the 2100 block of Harrisburg Road and found evidence of arson, the agency said. The release said a family member of the homeowner was injured when entering the residence before crews arrived. That individual was in critical condition Friday.

Fire marshals found signs of forced entry and discovered that the home had been "ransacked and vandalized," according to the department.

During the investigation, authorities said, the marshals saw three minors walking nearby during school hours. When they stopped Walton and the two others, the youths had guns, the release states.

The city's fire and police departments discovered a burglary nearby that tied the three to the Harrisburg Road fire, according to the statement.

The case remains under investigation.
