HEART AND SOUL

Red all over: Colorful luncheon shines light on heart disease

Hundreds of women all dolled up in red -- and a few men -- turned out May 18 to raise awareness about heart disease.

Go Red for Women, the American Heart Association of Central Arkansas' annual luncheon, was held at the Little Rock Marriott.

Phyllis Rogers chaired the event.

Before lunch, guests perused two long tables filled with silent auction items, including a number of covet-worthy purses.

The lunch featured healthy plates of salads featuring chicken and beef. A not-so-healthy cheesecake topped with fresh strawberries and chantilly cream was the dessert temptation.

After lunch, Miss Metro Teen Abigal Davis was presented with the Youth Advocate of the Year award.

Dawn Scott served as master of ceremonies and author Mary B. Lucas of Kansas City, Kan., gave a moving speech about her published memoir about her father, Lunch Meat and Life Lessons.

Guests were given copies of the book while departing with the invitation to get Lucas' signature.
