Governor's abode manager retires

The administrator at the Governor's Mansion, Donald J. Bingham, retired this week, according to his personnel file.

Bingham had served as the mansion administrator under Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson since Jan. 11, 2015, Hutchinson spokesman J.R. Davis said Thursday. Bingham's salary was $98,410 a year.

Bingham also served as the mansion administrator under then-Gov. Mike Huckabee, a Republican, from September 1997-2006.

In a memo dated April 10 to Hutchinson, Bingham submitted his resignation, effective at the close of business Tuesday of this week for "retirement" purposes, according to a copy of Bingham's personnel file released by the governor's office on Wednesday to this newspaper under the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act. Davis said the governor didn't ask for Bingham to resign.

Bingham could not be reached for comment by telephone on either Wednesday or Thursday.

Davis said, "We do not have an exact time frame on when we will be filling the position."

Patty Shipp is temporarily filling the position of mansion administrator, and has not received an increase in pay, Davis said.
