Simmons bond issue plan draws mixed views in Benton County

SUBMITTED Simmons Prepared Foods unveiled this rendering of its new $300 million poultry processing plant, to be located between Decatur and Gentry, at a Sept. 27 press conference in Simmons Great Hall at John Brown University in Siloam Springs. The plant is expected to be operational sometime in 2019.

Benton County's justices of the peace heard a mix of opposition and praise Tuesday for a poultry-processing plant Simmons Foods is planning near Gentry.

Bond ordinance

An ordinance authorizing a $400 million industrial revenue bond issue for Simmons Foods proposed plant near Gentry was on its second reading at Tuesday’s meeting of the Benton County Quorum Court. The third and final reading of the ordinance is scheduled for the Quorum Court’s April 26 meeting.
