Benton County Deputy’s vehicle hits child

BENTONVILLE — A boy was taken to the hospital Friday after being struck by Benton County deputy’s vehicle.

Bentonville Police Chief Jon Simpson issued a press release stating the boy was hit at 7:57 a.m. by the vehicle at Northeast Second and Northeast J streets.

Initial reports indicate the deputy was traveling west on Northeast Second Street when the child ran into the street and was hit by the deputy’s vehicle, according to the release.

The child was conscious when he was transported by ambulance to Northwest Medical Center — Bentonville, according to the release.

The child’s condition is unknown at this time, the release states.

The accident is under investigation by Bentonville police and the name of the deputy involved in the accident is not being released at this time, according to the press release.

Shannon Jenkins, spokeswoman for the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, said they are not releasing any information because of the ongoing investigation.
