Arkansas boy, 8, dies in storm cellar fire

An 8-year-old boy died after becoming trapped in a northeast Arkansas storm cellar that caught fire over the weekend, authorities said.

On Sunday, the Independence County sheriff's office and Oil Trough Fire Department were called to an address on Blackland Road in Oil Trough, according to a news release.

At the location, authorities found a boy trapped in a storm cellar by fire, the sheriff's office said.

The child was flown to a Little Rock hospital, where he died of injuries suffered in the blaze.

An investigation is ongoing, and "further details will be released" when the investigation is completed, the release states.

Oil Trough, a rural town of around 260 residents, is nearly 77 miles northeast of Little Rock.
