Camden meeting to plan pavilion

CAMDEN -- A public meeting is scheduled today about building an outdoor pavilion where people can sit and eat downtown, the Ouachita County judge's office has announced.

The proposed site for the pavilion is the old Public Library of Camden and Ouachita County on Harrison Avenue. The meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Ouachita County Courthouse lobby.

In 2011, a fire overnight badly damaged the Camden Public Library and destroyed a significant portion of its collection. Investigators believe the fire started near back offices in the structure on Harrison Avenue before spreading to the attic, where it became difficult to put out.

The roof was mostly destroyed and the building was ultimately torn down.
