A 74-year-old Berryville man died after his Chevrolet crossed into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle head-on Saturday night in north of Berryville, police said.

The crash happened around 9:35 p.m. on Arkansas 221 about 7 miles north of the Carroll County town of Berryville, according to a preliminary report.

Police say Darold L. Johnson crossed the highway's centerline in his northbound Chevrolet and struck another Chevrolet traveling south.

Johnson suffered fatal injuries as a result of the wreck, according to authorities. Also hurt were the southbound vehicle's driver, 24-year-old Mason Binham of Harrison and two minor passengers in his Chevrolet.

Authorities described the weather as clear, and roads were said to be dry at the time.

At least 244 deaths have been recorded in crashes on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
