3-vehicle accident kills man, girl in Ashdown

At least three people died and several others were injured on roadways Wednesday, according to preliminary reports from Arkansas State Police.

Two people, including a 9-year-old girl, were killed and five others were hurt in a three-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon on U.S. 71 in Little River County, authorities said.

It happened about 2:45 p.m. near South Kaylee Drive in Ashdown, according to a state police report.

State police said a southbound 2008 Toyota crossed the centerline and first hit a northbound 2015 Chevrolet before spinning into a northbound 2014 GMC.

The Toyota's driver, 79-year-old Jimmy Moore of Ashdown, suffered fatal injuries, as did a child in his vehicle, authorities wrote. The child was not named in the report, but the Little River County coroner identified the child as a 9-year-old girl.

A second child in the Toyota was listed in the police report as being hurt, as were four occupants of the GMC: The 37-year-old driver, Felecia Alverson of Lowell; a 35-year-old passenger, Krystal Faircloth of Lincoln; and children. The report didn't detail the extent of their injuries or list names or ages for the children.

Police didn't indicate what may have caused the Toyota to cross the centerline.

A 29-year-old man from Danville was fatally struck by a vehicle early Wednesday in Yell County, police said.

Shortly after 4 a.m., Gary W. Hickey was hit by an eastbound 2016 Ford on Arkansas 154 west of Centerville, according to a state police report.

Investigators wrote that Hickey was "in the roadway," though the report didn't indicate why he was there. No one else was listed as being hurt.
