Melissa Campbell set what is now the Class 5A state record in the girls 800-meter run while she was a junior at Harrison in 1987. She ran track and cross country for the Lady Goblins and later ran at Arkansas. She has been working for 15 years with the Springdale School District, but her heart remains with working with abused and neglected children. She is also a big supporter of adoption, having adopted two boys.

The girls 3,200-meter run was still a relatively new race in Arkansas track and field when Melissa Campbell stepped on the Sheridan High School track to run it in 1987.
