Councilman's exit in Maumelle final

Maumelle City Council member Marc Kelley formally resigned Monday because he plans to move out of state, Maumelle Mayor Mike Watson said.

Kelley, who represents Ward 2 in the city, announced at the City Council's Jan. 2 meeting that his house was for sale and he would resign once it sold. Watson said in an email that he received a formal resignation letter from Kelley after the sale of his house closed on Monday.

The City Council has already been accepting resumes from qualified electors who live in Maumelle's Ward 2 and are interested in filling the position, according to a notice posted Jan. 19 on the city website maumelle.org. Applications are to be submitted by noon Feb. 14 to the city clerk/treasurer's office, 550 Edgewood Drive, Suite 590, Maumelle, Ark., 72113.

Applicants are expected to be interviewed by City Council members at the council's regular 6 p.m. meeting Feb. 20, according to the notice. An appointment is expected to be made at the same meeting.

Kelley, first elected to the council in 2012, was re-elected to a four-year term in 2016 without opposition. Rick Anderson is the other council member representing Ward 2 on the eight-person council.
