BASKETBALL: Lady Wildcats rally past Bentonville West

Perry scores 18 to lead Har-Ber boys

SPRINGDALE -- Springdale Har-Ber rallied to avoid ending the first half of 7A-West Conference play with a loss at home.

Savanna Collins made four 3-pointers and scored 16 points to lead Har-Ber to a 51-46 victory over Bentonville West Tuesday at Wildcat Arena. Maci Mains and Krislyn Smith added 13 points each for the Lady Wildcats, who fell behind by eight points early in the second quarter to West (8-11, 1-6).

Har-Ber (11-10, 3-4) tied the game at halftime and outscored West 18-12 in the fourth quarter to win.

"Our kids could have folded but they maintained their coachability and that was huge," Har-Ber coach Jaime Green said. "Our seniors held each other up. If someone was off, the other person picked up the slack."

Har-Ber needed contributions from everyone on the court to hold off the Lady Wolverines, who led 20-12 in the second quarter. Shania Wilson scored 17 points to lead the Lady Wolverines, who still led 34-33 after three quarters.

Har-Ber regained the lead in the fourth quarter behind Collins, Mains and Smith, all seniors. Mains opened the fourth quarter with a layup then stole a pass and fed Smith to give Har-Ber a 37-34 lead.

Collins made two 3-pointers midway through the fourth quarter to put Har-Ber ahead 45-41. West got to within 47-46 but through the ball away on an inbound play with 13 seconds left. Mains then made two free throws to set the final margin.

Har-Ber used a 10-2 run to tie the game 22-22 at halftime after a 3-pointer Krislyn Smith just before the buzzer. Smith started the surge with a three-point play after West a 20-12 lead in the second quarter.

West got off to a good start behind the play of Kash, who scored eight of her 10 points in the first half. But the Lady Wolverines had a string of unforced errors in the second quarter, which helped Har-Ber tie the game 22-22 at halftime.

"We've been in a lull for about 10 days, and it happens," Har-Ber coach Scott Bowlin said. "Every team goes through it. But this win helps us, maybe, to get a little momentum back. I was proud the way our guys stayed locked in. They didn't let things bother them."
