Teen sentenced to 40 years in shooting of Arkansas gas station clerk

A 19-year-old was sentenced to 40 years in prison Wednesday in the 2017 shooting of a northeast Arkansas gas station clerk, authorities said.

Dwalin Lamonte Woods of Trumann pleaded guilty to attempted capital murder and aggravated robbery, according to a news release from the office of Scott Ellington, prosecuting attorney for the 2nd Judicial District of Arkansas.

Woods was taken into custody in January 2017 after multiple people identified him from security footage of a robbery at Valero, 108 Bay Drive, in Bay, Craighead County court records show.

Woods shot the female employee in the upper right side, then retrieved cash from the register before fleeing, a probable cause affidavit said.
