LR historic group sets up workshop

The Little Rock Historic District Commission will hold a workshop today on procedures of a potential new committee that would conduct a pre-review process of a potential application.

The Design Review Committee would review a potential project before a person applies to be heard by the Historic District Commission. Committee members would examine 11 factors as specified in the design guidelines and share any concerns with the potential applicant.

The city said it believes that such a pre-application review would help reduce the time a project takes to get through the process.

Today's workshop -- which is open to the public -- is scheduled from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. and will be held at the city's planning and Ddevelopment building, 723 W. Markham St., just east of South State Street in Little Rock. The city said it will accept public comments at a Feb. 12 public hearing.

The seven-member Historic District Commission exists to preserve and protect sites and structures of historic and architectural interest and significance, and encourage private efforts to restore such sites, buildings, structures and their surroundings.
