Woman found slain in Arkansas apartment identified

Authorities are investigating the killing of a woman who investigators believe was beaten to death at a south Arkansas residence.

A suspect in the killing has been arrested, though formal charges have not yet been filed.

Arkansas State Police said officers were called about 6 p.m. to Turtle Creek Apartments on Oakland Avenue in Monticello, where they found a woman's body inside one unit. The victim was identified Friday afternoon as Roxanne Best, 32, of Monticello.

The body was sent to the Arkansas state Crime Laboratory to determine the manner and cause of death, police said in a news release.

Police said the suspect is 28 years old and was being detained "pending the filing of formal criminal charges." The suspect's name wasn't released.
