Mother, daughter charged in beating

A mother and daughter face felony charges after a 68-year-old woman was beaten and robbed in her home in January, according to an affidavit filed earlier this month.

The 68-year-old is the mother of Cherie Rene Souza, 49, and the grandmother of Lisa Marie Holmes, 29, court records show.

On Jan. 27, Souza and Holmes forced their way into the Cherokee Village home, according to a probable cause affidavit. Neither of the women was welcome there, the resident told authorities, but they "charged" her when she opened the door to see who it was.

The two shoved her over the couch and punched her in the face repeatedly when she was on the floor, then extinguished a lit cigarette on her face and took her cellphone, the affidavit said.

Souza and Holmes are charged with second-degree domestic battery, property theft, criminal trespassing and aggravated residential burglary, records show.
