***plenty to like

****confident choice

1 Purse $20,000, 1 1/16 miles, fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up which have never won two races, claiming $8,000

***EVER SPECIAL showed determination defeating $16,000 maiden-claimers. She has been very consistent and is spotted to repeat in a bottom-level conditioned-claimer. MOONLIGHT TRAIN finished fast in a useful fourth-place sprint tune-up. She figures closer to the pace in her first two-turn effort and trainer Danny Pish is long overdue to win a race at Oaklawn. ROAN FEATHERS is the field’s leading money earner and is ready to route following a pair of sprint races.

2 Purse $23,000, 6 furlongs, fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up, Arkansas-bred, maiden claiming $20,000 **BELLA MY GIRL was compromised by a wide trip in a fourth-place finish, and the beaten post-time favorite is dropping in class. She is switching to a leading rider. SEASIDE SURPRISE crossed the wire two lengths in front of the top selection in an improved third-place finish, and she was scratched Friday in favor of this race. DIXIE FOREST showed good early speed before tiring in her 2018 debut, and her speed is dangerous at this lower level.

3 Purse $20,000, 1 1/16 miles, 3-year-olds and up, maiden claiming $12,500

****TELLING YOU TWICE has raced competitively around two turns at Fair Grounds and Delaware, while competing against much better and earning the field’s fastest Beyer figures. TO THE KING was one-paced in his Oaklawn debut, but he does have four in-the-money finishes. He is dropping to the lowest price of his career for sharp connections. JUSTANOTHERBIRD recorded a pair of third-place route finishes last fall in Kentucky, and he switches to an apprentice rider after a dull performance Feb. 4.

4 Purse $20,000, 6 furlongs, fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up, claiming $6,250

***CORINTHIAN’S GLORY recorded consecutive victories in similar company at Remington, and he may be sitting on a top effort after being caught late in a runner-up finish. KARLA WITH A K may be overlooked after a dull seasonal debut, but she was a four-time winner in 2017 and moves up if the track is still wet. MY PLACE OR YOURS has finished in the money in 9 of 15 races at Oaklawn, and she has early speed and trainer John Cox is doing well with limited starters.

5 Purse $23,000, 6 furlongs, fillies, 3-year-olds, maiden claiming $20,000

**DIALED TO GO lost a clear lead in a photo-finish loss at Santa Anita, and the quick filly is dropping to the lowest price of her career for a stable having a strong meeting. PARTY PANTS wore blinkers for the first time and responded with a vastly improved second-place finish, and she drew a good post for a sprinter who has early speed. KANTASTIC is dropping in class after an even effort in her local debut, but she did finish first before being disqualified in her previous race at Churchill.

**WESTFEST has not raced since May, but he finished his 4-year-old campaign with two strong efforts in Kentucky. Recent works at Fair Grounds suggest he is returning fit. BAJAN CASH won an exceptionally fast $30,000 conditioned-claiming race Jan. 20, and he may be simply that good for new trainer Brad Cox. BURGAMEISTER dominated a conditioned-claiming field of his own when making his first start for trainer Chris Hartman, and he will get the jump on the second selection if the pace comes back.

7 Purse $37,000, 6 furlongs, 4-year-olds and up, claiming $25,000 ****PRIME ISSUE pressed a rapid pace in a deceptively good fourth-place finish. He is dropping in class and figures to lead this field of $25,000 claimers past every pole. RICHIE THE BULL has the benefit of a third-place starter allowance effort over the track, and he was a clear winner at this claiming price in his previous race at Churchill. MATROOH is a classy veteran who is cutting back after four route races, and he recorded a sharp 4-furlong work in preparation for a sprint.

***PETROV finished second in the 2017 Southwest and Smarty Jones stakes, and before his freshening won an exceptionally fast allowance sprint race at Saratoga. UNCONTESTED was beaten just over two-lengths in the Grade 2 Phoenix at Keeneland, and he is back sprinting after a disappointing two-turn effort. STORM ADVISORY is a speedy veteran who owns two wins at Oaklawn, and he has the class to win at this level.

*OH SO TALL fell apart inside the final furlong after setting an honest pace in his career debut. He recorded a sharp subsequent 5-furlong breeze and may go the distance. ALVIN’S TOUCH finished second in a more talented maiden field last January at Oaklawn, and he has winning connections, but seems vulnerable at an unattractive price. ZACK RIDGE ROAD has rallied in consecutive in-the-money finishes, and he appears talented enough to break his maiden here, maybe even today.

EXOTIC POSSIBILITIES

The third race starts a 50-cent Pick-3 and Telling You Twice may be a single, but the field can confidently be covered with the addition of To the King. The fourth race is very weak which gives Corinthian’s Glory a big shot to win. The fifth race brings a full field and spreading out is recommended. Prime Issue has the look of a winner in the seventh and I recommend a big exacta over Richie the Bull and a smaller one with Matrooh.
