Legacies & Lunch

Charles Stewart, co-founder of the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame, will discuss notable figures profiled in the new book Seeds of Genius: Twenty-Five Years of the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame (Butler Center Books, 2017) in the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies' monthly Legacies & Lunch program, noon Wednesday in the Darragh Center, Central Arkansas Library System Main Library, 100 Rock St., Little Rock.

Admission is free; attendees should pack their own lunch and the Butler Center provides drinks and desserts. Co-sponsor is the Arkansas Humanities Council. Call (501) 918-3033 or visit butlercenter.org.

UCA bands

The University of Central Arkansas Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Reynolds Performance Hall at UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.

Trombonist and UCA faculty member Justin Cook will be the soloist with the Wind Ensemble and graduate conducting student Mykala Parker in the second and third movements of the Trombone Concerto by William Bolcom. The Wind Ensemble program concert will also include Chorale and Alleluia by Howard Hanson and Sensemaya by Silvestre Revueltas. Ricky Brooks conducts.

The Symphonic Band will perform the Overture to The Italian Girl in Algiers by Gioacchino Rossini, Suite No. 1 in E-flat major by Gustav Holst, Colonial Song by Percy Grainger and Americans We by Henry Filmore. Brantley Douglas conducts.

Magic Springs lineup

Sister Hazel, with opening act Vertical Horizon, will perform at 7 p.m. May 26 at Magic Springs, U.S. 70 East (East Grand Avenue), Hot Springs, kicking off the park's 2018 Summer Concert Series.
