Couple's $200,000 to aid UA students

FAYETTEVILLE -- A Fayetteville couple's $200,000 planned gift will support student scholarships at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

Robert "Wayne" and Joanne Jones are giving $150,000 to establish a graduate fellowship for geotechnical or structural engineering students. The remaining $50,000 of the couple's planned gift will be for scholarships to help art students study abroad at the UA Rome Center.

UA last month announced a record enrollment of 130 students from four universities studying at the Rome campus, including 36 UA students.

Wayne Jones earned bachelor's and master's degrees from UA in civil engineering and worked for 39 years with McClelland Consulting Engineers Inc., retiring in 2014 as a company vice president, director and corporate secretary, according to UA.

Joanne Jones worked for 20 years as an art instructor at UA. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees from UA after enrolling when the couple's children were in high school, according to UA. She retired in 2013.
