Sept. 18, 1917

• Joseph J. Durett, aged 39, a switch-man for the Rock Island railroad, died from injuries received while at work at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon in Factoria addition. He was standing on the rear end of the locomotive, which was backing up. He lost his footing and fell underneath the wheels. The ambulance of Ruebel & Co. rushed to the scene, but Durett died on the way to the hospital.

Sept. 18, 1967

• Mrs. Tresa Ann Oliver, 24, of 1619 North Mississippi Avenue was killed early Sunday morning when her car plunged through a railing on the Levy Overpass of Interstate Route 40 and landed 100 feet below near Highway 365 (Old Conway Highway) at North Little Rock. She was dead on arrival at Memorial Hospital, North Little Rock. State Trooper Tommy Robinson said that Mrs. Oliver was driving east toward Little Rock in the inside lane about 2:30 a.m. and that she was alone in the car.

Sept. 18, 1992

• Wrightsville's former police chief was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison for accepting $400 last spring to keep quiet about a man possessing stolen property. Gregory Todd Braggs, 31, now of Little Rock, pleaded guilty Aug. 25 before Pulaski County Circuit Judge John Langston to one count of public servant bribery. Defense attorney Bill McArthur has asked Langston to place his client on probation, saying Braggs had an exemplary record up to that time and was still strongly supported by Wrightsville residents.

• A North Little Rock man who admitted to wounding a pregnant woman was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison. Ezell Donley, 21, pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree battery and aggravated assault for shooting 26-year-old Leah Nicole Gooding of Alexander on March 15, during what police said was a dispute over drugs. In exchange for Donley's guilty plea, prosecutors recommended the 10-year sentence to Pulaski County Circuit Judge Barry Sims. They also dropped charges of residential burglary and firearms possession, and reduced a charge of attempted capital murder, representing the woman's unborn child, to aggravated assault.
